Exodus 20:2-17
1. I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other gods before me.
2. You shall not make for yourself an idol
3. You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God
4. Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
5. Honor your father and mother
6. You shall not murder
7. You shall not commit adultery
8. You shall not steal
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
10. You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.
The point here is that the first 4 commandments deals with your relationship with God; and the rest with fellow humans. When Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment in the law He replied.
Loving God is mentioned first and foremost; then comes loving your neighbor. The reason is that if you love God then it automatically follows that you love your neighbor – because God’s love is in you.“`Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: `Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Matthew 22:37-40
I pray that God’s love will fill us and flow through us to touch the lives around.
